History of the city of Venice, Florida

Venice is one of the most beautiful places in the State of Florida. Many people have been visiting this beautiful place because of the good sceneries that they could see in this very beautiful paradise.

The early history of Venice started when Richard Roberts, settled in the island during the year 1870 and built a homestead near the Roberts Bay where he planted orange and some other crops. In the year 1884, Richard Roberts have sold a portion of the share of holdings to Frank Higel and he was the one who established a citrus operation which involves the production of some lines of canned fruits like that of jams, pickled orange peels, orange wine and lemon juice. The Higel family members were about to make their selves as the boat builders, fishermen, contractors and grove caretakers for the next 30 years. They are the ones who dominated the whole place of Venice in the mid years of 1910’s.

The city of Venice had its first post office named “Venice” which is after the canal city in Italy. This name was suggested by Frank Higel  in the year 1888 and was later on adopted by the city as its official name and replaced its original name called “Horses and Carriage” due to the carriage like tree formation that has marked a spot for all the fishermen.

Darwin Curry was hailed as the very first postmaster in the city of Venice. He is also one of the people who have picked the name for the community post office. This marked the beginning of the more colorful history that Venice had.

One of the early developments in the city of Venice is said to be the completion of the railroad that made a difference in the way Venice developed due to the fact that this made a way for trading system to further flourish in the city.

Another innovation that had made a great mark in the history of Venice is the development of rail ways in the city. This was called Venice Train Station. The settlement of Venice had been established slowly and there remained a small fishing resort and community of farm through the first part of the year 1920’s.

In the July 1926, a residential construction has started and three large residences in the Gulf View section of the subdivision were created. Being a unique city, Venice has approved all the new architectural designs of some firms in New York to be implemented in the city houses. Many schools and other communities arose making a government to be established in the month of May year 1927.

Venice is one of the best places in the State of Florida. Because of the innovations and early developments that have occurred in the place, many people are enticed to visit the place and having a first hand experience of the place that had been into a great history. This is one of the best things that made Venice have a good reputation in the state of Florida.
